First UMC in Des Moines to Host Conference Unheard Voices from the Heart of Palestine
Saturday, September 30th First Church will be hosting a conference entitled Unheard Voices from the Heart of Palestine. The conference will feature two keynote speakers. Rev. Naim Ateek is a Palestinian priest in the Anglican Church and the founder of Sabeel, an ecumenical theology center in Jerusalem. Our other keynote speaker is Phyllis Bennis, a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies. Phyllis has served as an informal advisor to several top UN officials on Middle East issues.
In addition to the keynote speakers breakout sessions will include:
  • History of the Occupation: From 1948 to the Present
  • Gaza
  • No Way to Treat a Child
